Keep Bastrop County Beautiful plans Christmas tree recycling
Thursday, December 24, 2009 |
Keep Bastrop County Beautiful will sponsor the first county-wide Christmas tree recycling project this year.
This project has the potential to divert over 1,000 trees from the landfill depending on participation. Patterned after other similar Texas programs, Christmas trees will be accepted at the City of Bastrop Public Works site beginning Dec. 26.
KBCB volunteers will staff the drop-off site for three days, Dec. 26, 27 and 28, from noon – 4 p.m., giving away a variety of individual 12-inch seedling trees to anyone who recycles their tree. The seedling trees are available only on these days. The site will remain open for tree drop off after that time.
Anyone is welcome to drop off their trees. All trees must have tinsel, lights and ornaments removed. Flocked trees cannot be accepted. City crews will chip the trees into mulch which will be available to anyone who wants it at no charge. The Bastrop Public Works site is located in Bastrop, south of the Little League Fields off Hwy. 95.
