The Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting an Alive @ 25 class at the sheriff’s office on Saturday, Jan. 30 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

“Alive @ 25 is a highly successful defensive driving program that has resulted in its graduates experiencing an over 70 percent decrease in crash fatalities in the areas it has been offered. The purpose of Alive at 25 is to educate young drivers about safer driving practices, taking responsibility for their behavior in various driving situations, learning to be aware of peer pressure, environmental distractions, state GDL requirements and driving hazards in general.

The program addresses the day-to-day issues by utilizing certified Alive at 25 instructors. The course is a young driver intervention program that zeroes in on drivers between the ages of 15 and 24, the group most likely to be involved in fatal collisions. Developed by the National Safety Council and offered through the Texas Alive Team, Alive at 25 teaches young adults that:

• People in their age group are more likely to be hurt or killed in a vehicle crash

• Inexperience, distractions, and peer pressure cause unique driving hazards

Speeding, alcohol, and “party drugs” greatly increase their risk of injury or death

• As a driver or passenger, they can greatly reduce their risk by taking control

• Committing to changing their driving behavior makes personal, legal and financial sense

The lives of teens throughout Texas are severely threatened by vehicle collisions. For a limited time this class will be offered at no cost. This class is limited to 20 students.

If you are interested in having your young adult attend this class, contact Deputy Wayne Wood at 512-549-5069.
