Girls basketball coach Robin Ramsay hit another milestone in an already spectacular career at Smithville High School.
With the Lady Tigers win Friday over Bellville, Ramsay picked up her 300th career win at Smithville.
In normal coach fashion, Ramsay credits this milestone to her former and current players.
“It’s a tremendous honor,” she said. “When you achieve something like this you go back and look at your past players because they are the ones who make this kind of thing possible.”
Ramsay’s career at Smithville has been one of much success.
In 2000, Ramsay coached the Lady Tigers all the way to the Class 3A state finals. Smithville lost to Winnsboro 54-51.
The legendary coach has also led the Lady Tigers to the playoffs in each of her 14 seasons at the helm.
Smithville currently has one of the longest playoff streaks and will more than likely extend it to 17 years this season.
Ramsay said she didn’t know when she will hang it up and retire.
“I would like to do this for four-five more years, but you don’t really know,” Ramsay said. “If my time comes before then and I just don’t have the desire to do this, then that’s when I will retire.”
Ramsay became the second basketball coach in Bastrop County to reach 300 wins in the last two years.
Elgin boys head coach Dave Schmitt picked up his 300th win in 2009.
