On Tuesday, Jan. 26, the Tiger varsity soccer team was able to rise up from their 7-0 loss to Del Valle and defeat Lockhart 2-1 away from home.
The first goal was in the first half of play, resulting from a direct kick from Danny Davis to Jose Jaimes, who buried the ball in the back of the net with a hard shot on goal.
In the second half of play, Davis scored a breakaway goal when he maneuvered through the Lockhart defense and over the goalie.
“The Tigers played a very tough defensive game against a persistent Lockhart offense and came away with the win,” said head coach Tom Hauser. “This will be the key to us being successful in district play.”
La Grange
This past Friday, the Tigers fell 6-3 to an aggressive La Grange team on a cold and windy evening away from home.
Every goal on their side came from Matt Swartz, who received help from teammates Jaimes and Murphy Granillo with assists.
“What happened to the Tigers at La Grange was the worst case scenario of an official unfairly determining the outcome of a match by a very bad and unprofessional decision,” Hauser said. “The Tigers clearly had the momentum and a 3-2 lead in the first half of the game. With five minutes or so left to play in the first half, the referee gave our best player and scorer a red card for a remark he made to a La Grange player after being fouled and knocked to the ground.”
