The cross-examination debate team of Chris Leonardi and I traveled to Mercedes this past weekend and took first place.
This win earned our team the 10 points we needed to qualify for the Texas Forensics Association state competition.
This makes us the first team from Smithville to accomplish this and Smithville High School one of the few small schools that will be at the competition.
Tennis
The varsity tennis team traveled to Wharton this past week for their first tournament of the season.
Juniors Danny Davis and Matthew Swartz placed third for boys’ doubles in the A division last Thursday. Davis and Swartz beat La Grange’s number one team (6-2, 6-4) to take third place.
Aarron Kasper and Gray Morris placed third for boys’ doubles in the B division of the Wharton tournament. Kasper and Morriss beat both La Grange’s number two team (6-2, 6-2) and Bellville’s number two team (6-0, 6-1).
The Tiger tennis team travels to Somerville this Saturday for a head-to-head dual match.
Band
The band held a garage sale this past weekend to raise funds for their trip to Disneyland during spring break.
Despite the cold weather all throughout the day, the event was a success.
Baseball
Baseball season will start off with an alumni game this Saturday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m.
PALs
The high school PALs program is having a car wash and bake sale at First National Bank this Saturday, Feb. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
