Instead of going to a crowded restaurant this Valentines Day, why not come to the Rockne Historical Society’s annual spaghetti lunch and fundraiser, where you can support a good cause and maybe win something in the drawing or auction? The event will be held on Feb. 14 and the public is invited to attend at noon. The silent auction always has plenty of homemade goodies, such as canned pickles and vegetables, noodles, pies and cookies.

The spaghetti lunch will begin at noon, followed by a live auction at 1 p.m. The auction is the highlight of the fundraiser, with many useful and interesting items sold to the highest bidder. This year, 20-month-old Akyra McAuley is donating her hobby horse in hopes that she will get a real live horse to replace it. Grandma Marian Nelson said, “That’s doubtful but we’ll take the hobby horse before she changes her mind.”

The drawing will held after the live auction. Many cash prizes will be awarded, from $50 to $400 and the first prize in the drawing is an afghan handcrafted by Doris Goertz Cook. Ms. Cook crochets a beautiful afghan for the fundraiser every year and this one is made from her own original pattern.
The Rockne Historical Association has only one planned fundraiser a year and the proceeds make possible the preservation of the area’s history and cultural heritage. The Rockne Museum has an extensive archival department and new exhibits are added regularly. Donations for the auction may be brought to Holtman Hall before 11 a.m. on the day of the fundraiser or call Minnie Bartsch at 303-3179 to make arrangements.
Domino Winners
Henry’s Place held a domino tournament on Sunday, Jan. 17 and the big winners were Doug Ott and Richard Spurlock. Jeff Meuth and Landry Tucker came in second place and Mike and Melissa Voigt came in third. The first and second place winners received cash prizes and as a special treat, Mike Voigt received a bottle of bubble bath for (as he claims)”carrying Melissa all the way through.”
