Jackie Asbill and Kristi Grigsby presented the program “Tiny Traditions” to the Colorado Valley Quilt Guild on Jan. 26 at First United Methodist Church in La Grange.
Tiny Traditions was a look at historical patchwork patterns, but in miniature. Most of the miniature quilts shown were made from patterns designed by Asbill and Grigsby quilts. The little quilts were passed around the room so that everyone could get an “up close” look at the small details.

Asbill and Grigsby are a mother-daughter duo who have been quilting “most of their lives” and started a pattern business in 1992 featuring foundation paper pieced patterns for miniature quilts. Both women are founding members of the local quilt guild and have held numerous offices in the guild over the past 12 years.
On Jan. 25, they conducted a workshop in this technique, Foundation Basics, using their Bear Tracks Mini Quilt pattern.
Workshop participants were Barbara Brauner, Barbara Hamrick, Suzanne Manning, and Janet Parker, La Grange; Brenda Camp, Bastrop; Dianna Foster, Columbus; Pat Ison, Moulton, Marianne Swim, Austin; Terry Tomlin, Muldoon; and Virginia Vinklarek, Flatonia.
Under new business at the guild meeting was the announcement that CVQG will have three quilts made by members of the guild that will be hanging in the National DAR Museum in Washington, D. C. in a featured exhibit April 15-Sept. 7.
Grigsby, quilt show chairman for the Feb. 26 and 27 “Best Little Quilt Show in Texas,” announced the theme this year – Beautiful Bluebonnets.
