Lolie McCorquodale: Paige News

Pat Abell recently opened up her home and personal museum to 43 women for a luncheon. The women came from a few different cities in the Bastrop County Extension Education Club to see the museum.

Pat’s son, Mike, was there to answer questions and talk about the history of the museum. It was built by Pat’s late husband, Johnny Abell, as a labor of love for his wife in 1991.

When Pat and Johnny were young, all the people in the town went out drinking on Saturday night. However, Pat and Johnny did not drink, so they went around collecting things.

The old west town was something to see – there was a blacksmith shop and a general store. The things in the store all came from the family who owned it and they are nothing short of amazing.

Pat has the biggest doll collection that I have ever seen.

The Paige EE Club finished sewing a queen-size quilt this past week at the community center. The quilt will be donated to the Paige Fire Department in October.

Crackers for Veterans

Brenda Potter got a phone call from Mary Boyer in Elgin asking her if she would accept a $75 check from the Elgin VFW for crackers.

They will meet Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the First National Bank in Elgin to grant the check. Potter told Boyer that other groups are getting donations together, too.

This whole thing started out as a challenge at the Austin VA Outpatient Clinic.

Many of the veterans arriving there are homeless, have traveled a long way or got up early and have nothing to eat, which is why the crackers are needed.

Paige 4-H Club

On. Feb. 29, the Page 4-H Club will have a showing at the Show Barn in Bastrop at 2 p.m. The FFA Club will be serving a spaghetti dinner to accompany the showing. If you are interested in coming, you must sign-in with Mr. Smick, who is in chargeof the goats. There will be a $50 charge for the kids who are showing and do not show up for work.
