All Smithville Independent School District board members whose seats were up this year can breathe a sigh of relief since it appears there will not be an election, according to Denise Behrens, secretary of the superintendent.

School board incumbents Mike Morgan (place five), Samella Williams (place six) and Howard Burns Jr. (place seven) were the only candidates to file for the upcoming May 8 election before the 5 p.m. deadline on Monday.
