The varsity Tiger tennis team has been playing for nearly two months this season and has grown a great deal, according to head coach Jason Segel.
“With three weeks left before our district tournament, the team is looking really good,” Segel said. “They have improved their match play and the results have been great.”
In the Rockdale tournament this past Friday, Smithville once again showed it is ready for the district tournament.
Morgan Vinklarek placed fourth in girls singles, while Lindsey Williams and Michelle Ruiz came in third in girls doubles.
Also, Tiffany Price and Brittany Hargrove won the consolation division in girls doubles.
As for the boys, Matthew Patrolia came in fourth in boys singles.
Meanwhile, Danny Davis and Matthew Swartz won the consolation division in the boys doubles.
In the mixed doubles, Aaron Kasper and Bailey Johnson won the consolation division as well.
“We have so many young players that are excelling very quickly in the learning process in both singles and doubles,” Segel said.
The varsity team travels to Somerville for a tournament on Thursday, March 25.
