4-H cake auction helps support all types of programs

The Bastrop County 4-H Program will sponsor its annual cake auction during homecoming in Bastrop on Saturday, Aug. 7 at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Bastrop. 4-H youth from all areas of Bastrop County, including Smithville, Elgin, Bastrop, Paige, McDade, Rockne, Hills Prairie and Red Rock, will be baking cakes to be auctioned at the annual fundraiser.

Water district agrees to variable future conditions

The local water conservation district agreed last week to a recommendation by the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) to qualify an acceptable variation range between its Desired Future Conditions drawdown numbers and groundwater model simulated drawdown numbers for the area’s aquifers.

The Smithville Animal Shelter was closed Monday after two shelter volunteers alleged abuse and mismanagement at the facility.
