Texas AgriLIFE Extension Service of Bastrop and Caldwell counties will sponsor a Fall Beef Cattle Feeding and Forage Management Program on Sept. 16, at the Old Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 4045 FM 535 in Rockne.

Registration for the program will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the program concluding around 3 p.m. Pre-registration is $15 until Sept. 14.  Registration at the door will be $20.

Registration fee includes lunch and handouts.

Three Pesticide Applicator Continuing Education units will be available, including one in IPM and two in General Category.  This program has also qualified for 3.5 beef quality credits through the Beef Quality Producer program.

Topics will include Alternatives to Feeding Hay, Stocking Rates on Winter Pastures, 2011 Farm Service Agency Programs, Taking Hay Samples for Analysis, Purchasing vs. Producing Your Hay, Cattle Market Outlook and Fall/Winter Brush Control Options.

Speakers will include Dr. Larry Redmon – Extension forage specialist, Dr. Rick Machen – Extension livestock specialist,  Tommy Miertschin – USDA Farm Service Agency, Dr. Larry Falconer – Extension economist and Dr. Bob Lyons – Extension rangeland specialist.
