Lost Pines NSDAR announces contests for area students

The Lost Pines Chapter NSDAR announces two essay contests for students in public schools, private schools, parochial schools, or those who are home-schooled.
A panel of DAR and non-DAR members will select the chapter winners for both contests, and the winners will be awarded savings bonds by the chapter.
The American History Essay Contest is for fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.
Fifth grade essays must be between 300 and 600 words; other grade levels, 600-1000 words.
All essays require documentation, using at least three sources.
There will be a chapter winner at each grade level.
The winning essays will be sent for judging at the state level.
The Christopher Columbus Essay Contest is for ninth to 12 grade high school students.
These essays must be between 800 and 1,000 words and also require documentation.
Only one will be selected as chapter winner, and the winning essay will be sent for judging at the state level.
The deadline for essay submissions is Dec. 1.
Public, private, and parochial school administrators and home-schooling parents are urged to contact the Lost Pines Chapter NSDAR American History Chairman pro tem Sue Lane McCulley as soon as possible so more information can be given to those who are interested in entering these contests.
