Next Meeting of NSDAR

The next regular meeting will be Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, in the Community Room at the First National Bank in Smithville, to celebrate Constitution Week (Sept. 17-23). Hostesses are Vice Regent Michelle Kee of Elgin and Sue Lane McCulley of Bastrop, who will have refreshments ready at 9:30 a.m. The meeting will start promptly at 10 a.m.  

Kay Wesson will present the program, “Eliza Lucas Pinckney-A Remarkable Founding Mother.” Attend this meeting if you want to learn more about this remarkable woman, the Constitution of the United States and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Wave “Old Glory” on  Monday, Sept. 6th (Labor Day), Saturday, 9-11 (Patriots Day – should be at half staff) and Monday, Oct. 11 (Columbus Day).

Flag Day in Smithville

The Lost Pines Chapter NSDAR held its Flag Day Ceremony at the Gazebo in Smithville on June 14th.  Individual members celebrated the Fourth of July – Independence Day, in remembrance of those who fought so we could be free from oppression.

Genealogy Workshop Well Attended

The local chapter held its annual Genealogy Workshop on Saturday, Aug. 21.

Mrs. Ella Sheffield spoke on some very interesting topics that educated a great many about family research. Ella is a well-known genealogist and is willing to help anyone interested in joining DAR prove their lineage back to the Revolutionary War.
