Smithville high school principal Jason Hewitt has accepted a position with Luling ISD as director of curriculum and instruction, according to SISD superintendent Rock McNulty. David Edwards, the school’s academic advisor, has been named the interim principal at the high school.
“Mr. Hewitt has done a marvelous job for four and a half years as principal of the high school,” McNulty said. “During his tenure the campus accomplished much, both academically, in athletics and the fine arts. The state Recognized status of the campus is just one of his many achievements.”
McNulty said Hewitt recently completed his superintendent certification and was working on a doctorate degree in public school administration at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor.
Applications for the position were posted on Monday, Jan. 23 and SISD will close applications on Feb. 29. Interviews are scheduled for March and McNulty says he anticipated having a recommendation for the board of trustees by the April 23 meeting.
“We will post a survey to collect input from staff, students, parents and other community members as to the qualities they would like to see in the next principal of the high school,” McNulty said.
The survey will be available on the district’s website from Thursday, Feb. 2 through Monday, Feb. 20.
