About

The Smithville Times began publishing in 1894 as Smithville grew into one of the largest towns in Bastrop County, due in big part to the growth of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, or the KATY.

The offices of The Times are in the heart of historical downtown Smithville at 303 Main St.

The Times is one of the Austin Community Newspapers owned by the Austin-American Statesman and part of  Cox Media Group.

The Smithville Times provides international, national and local news that impacts the Smithville area. We have columnists that provide area news for Paige, Rockne and Rosanky along with information on the local arts scene and gardening in the area. Talk of the Town lets you know what’s going on in and around Smithville.

If you see news happening, call the newsroom at (512) 237-4655 or email news@smithvilletimes.com.
